The Sound Design is a new name to join the Illinois barbershop quartet harmony scene but it’s members are well known to enthusiasts who follow this musical art-form. Their favorite performance songs include "Tonight" from West Side Story; Always, a classic by Irving Berlin; What Kind Of Fool Am I; Make 'em Laugh; Old Cape Cod; Sha-Boom; Puttin’ On The Ritz; Goin’ Out Of My Head, and many others.

Tenor Dave Farquhar brings a wealth of musicianship to his first registered quartet. Dave is an associate director and arranger for the Elgin Fox Valley Men of Harmony. He loves to keep us in tune whenever he can. Dave often orchestrates quartet improvements, and he helps us meet those hunger needs after rehearsals with his gourmet desserts.

Lead Pete Hansen is a former international-level singing category judge, and a many-time Illinois District quartet medalist, most recently with Tsunami . Pete can detect those singing flaws that gum up the quartet sound from time to time. Pete likes to roll up his sleeves and dig into the nitty-gritty details of good, clean singing.

Baritone Tim Carter, a former tenor with Genuine Craft and Skyline , is enjoying singing baritone for the first time ever. This is no problem for Tim being such a fine natural singer. Tim admits he is detail oriented and likes to keep his sleeves rolled down as he contemplates how best to keep the quartet focused on the task at hand.

Bass Doug Smith, is the director of the Elgin Chapter and has a long string of quartets that he likes to talk about now and then just for old-time sake. Doug usually wears a short-sleeved shirt and often stumbles into a great idea that helps the quartet maintain its balance.

Can you guess which of these men are: a marketing specialist for ServiceMaster, a motor skills specialist for children with disabilities, a university admissions officer, and a middle school orchestra teacher and conductor?

Together, these men enjoy the pleasure of locking four voices into a chord that rings into the next room. Relax and enjoy some live musical harmonies that have been designed especially for you. If you like good, sound harmony as much as this foursome likes to sing, then you will enjoy Sound Design .
